Pesticides:
Agrochemical a contraction of agricultural chemical,
is a generic term for the various chemical products
used in agriculture. In most cases, agrichemical refers
to the broad range of insecticides, herbicides, and
fungicides, but it may also include synthetic fertilizers,
hormones and other chemical growth agents, and concentrated
stores of raw animal manure.
Natural pesticidal products, also called botanical pesticides,
are available as alternatives to synthetic chemical
formulations. Although thought of by some as "natural,"
and therefore assumed to be harmless, safety clothing
must be worn when spraying these, even though their
toxicity is low to warm-blooded animals. Some botanical
pesticides are toxic to fish and other cold-blooded
creatures and should be treated with care.
The indiscriminate use of chemical pesticides has given
rise to many well-known and serious problems, including
genetic resistance of pest species, toxic residues in
stored products, increasing costs of application, hazards
from handling etc.
The
problems caused by pesticides and their residues have
increased the need for effective, biodegradable pesticides
with greater selectivity. Alternative strategies have
included the search for new types of insecticides, and
the re-evaluation and use of traditional botanical pest
control agents. Botanical insecticides tend to have
broad-spectrum activity are safe and relatively specific
in their mode of action and easy to process and use.
They also tend to be safe for higher animals and environment.
Botanical insecticides can often be easily produced
by farmers and small-scale industries. As a part of
my interest on natural pest control, following research
articles have already been published in different journals
and proceedings. Get better infomation about Botanical
